Bay Area’s big Labor Day weekend festivals: Scottish games, Kings Mountain art, Millbrae art/wine, Bizerkeley vegan

The Bay Area’s unofficial summer won’t be over until the last piper leaves Pleasanton.

Again this year, the Alameda County Fairgrounds will host the Scottish Highland Gathering and Games, a celebration of Scottish culture, music and the “heavy” sports that’s been held in the Bay Area since 1866.

Here are the details on that event and other big Labor Day weekend festivals:

Scottish Highland Gathering and Games: The Bay Area’s largest celebration of Scottish culture features “heavy athletics” contests such as caber and stone tosses; the Kilted Mile race; heritage exhibits; traditional foods and whisky tastings; sheepdog trials and birds of prey demonstrations; and music including pipe bands, harpists, fiddlers and Celtic rock.

This year’s highlights include:

— Actor and martial artist Adrian Paul. The immortal Scottish swordsman Duncan MacLeod of “Highlander: The Series,” will greet fans, sign autographs and lead a special “Sword Experience” in the Living History area.

— The 2026 Men’s Scottish Heavy Athletics World Championships alongside the 50th annual U.S. Invitational Heavy Athletics Championships.

— The participation of 54 clans and Scottish societies.

Details: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday at the Alameda County Fairgrounds, 4501 Pleasanton Ave., Pleasanton. Tickets, $5.60 to $44.80, must be purchased online at www.thescottishgames.com, either in advance or via QR code at the event. Parking is $15.

Other Labor Day weekend festivals.

Kings Mountain Art Fair: More than 100 juried artists from the U.S. and Canada will gather to create a fine-art gallery in the redwoods at this annual event that started in 1963. Live entertainment and food and drink booths will be offered on all three holiday weekend days.

Proceeds from this volunteer-run event benefit the Kings Mountain Volunteer Fire Brigade and Kings Mountain Elementary School.

Millbrae Art & Wine Festival: This 55th annual event will feature 200 arts and crafts booths, plus live music and food, and beer and wine vendors. Interactive art workshops are planned, and there will be a children’s activity zone. SamTrans will provide free shuttle service every 20 minutes from the BART station, where weekend parking is free, according to festival sponsors, the Millbrae Chamber of Commerce.

Bizerkeley Food Festival: The sixth annual vegan food festival — Northern California’s largest — will feature dozens of vendors plus entertainment, games and a children’s activity zone. Organizers note that half of the attendees and vendors every year are not plant-based eaters/makers.
