After months of anticipation, Zareen’s, the popular Pakistani-Indian restaurant chain thriving in the Peninsula and South Bay, has opened its new downtown Sunnyvale location.
Initially forecasted to open in March, this represents the local restaurant chain’s southernmost location.
The bustling restaurant by chef and entrepreneur Zareen Khan began out of a small Mountain View storefront in 2014, then expanded to Palo Alto’s California Avenue in 2016. She’s stayed busy since then: She expanded to Broadway in Redwood City in 2020, then last year released a cookbook with her husband, Umair Khan, sharing recipes from their kitchen. And earlier this year, Zareen was named a 2026 James Beard semi-finalist for best chef in California.
Along the way, the restaurant picked up a shout-out in the 2020 Michelin Guide, which described the restaurant’s chicken Memoni samosas as a “must-order” and also recommended its chicken shami kebabs. But there’s really no wrong way to order here — so long as you’re sure to pick up some of the chai.
