A 34-year-old Big Bear resident stopped by deputies for riding an e-bike without a helmet was taken into custody after the traffic stop revealed he was a felon who was armed with a loaded gun and in possession of drugs, authorities said.

Christopher Powell was stopped at around 11:09 p.m. Friday, July 17 at Big Bear Boulevard and Paradise Way in Big Bear City, San Bernardino sheriff’s officials said in a news release.
Deputies from the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station said they initially stopped him because he was riding a Class 3 e-bike without a helmet.
During the traffic stop, they located a loaded .357 Magnum revolver, live .357 Magnum ammunition in a speed-loader, suspected fentanyl, and unprescribed Xanax pills, the release said.

Deputies determined that Powell was a felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition. He was arrested and transported to the West Valley Detention Center.
