HERCULES — A crash involving an overturned car turned into the arrest of two people on suspicion of possessiong an unregistered gun, police said.

The two men — identified by police as a 21-year-old driver and 29-year-old passenger — both were outside of the black Ford Mustang when officers arrived to the crash about 10:45 p.m. Saturday, police said. The Mustang was resting on its roof.
Police said the driver also was suspected of driving under the influence.
According to police, officers treated the two men until an ambulance and paramedics arrived. Police said that during the ensuing investigation, officers found a handgun under the Mustang and that a records check revealed it hadn’t been registered.

An ambulance took the two men to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Police said they received a warrant to collect the DNA of both men, and that a second warrant cleared police to get a blood test. The two men were taked to Hercules Police headquarters and released from custody after the tests were finished.
