A fire tore through a former firehouse Tuesday evening in Oakland’s Montclair neighborhood, causing significant damage to the long-shuttered building’s attic, authorities said.

The blaze was reported at 8:18 p.m. at 6271 Moraga Ave., the former location of Oakland Fire Department’s Station 24 near Montclair Park, according to Michael Hunt, a spokesman for the agency. About two-dozen firefighters managed to bring the flames under control within a half-hour, he said.
The fire department left the building more than three decades ago amid concerns about its structural integrity, Hunt said. Station 24 was later relocated to the base of Shepherd Canyon Park.

A cause for the blaze remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
