The crash happened around 1:25 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Bascom and Fruitdale avenues, San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih said in a news release.
An initial investigation revealed a man was riding a 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle southbound on South Bascom, north of Fruitdale, when he hit a man crossing the roadway, Shih said.
Both men suffered life-threatening injuries, Shih said. They were taken to a hospital, where the pedestrian died from his injuries and the motorcyclist was stabilized.
The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner will release the identity of the man who died after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.
The collision marked the city’s 42nd traffic death of the year investigated by the San Jose Police Department. There were 30 roadway deaths in the city at the same point in 2025.
