SAN JOSE — A man was fatally shot north of downtown San Jose on Wednesday night, and police continue to search for his assailant.

The shooting was reported at 11:02 p.m. on Stockton Avenue near West Taylor Street, according to San Jose police. Responding police officers found a man suffering from gunshot injuries; he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The victim’s name was not publicly released pending his formal identification and notification of his next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
Police did not release additional details Thursday, stating only that the motive and circumstances of the killing were under investigation.

The death marked the city’s 18th homicide of the year investigated by San Jose police. The same number of homicides had been recorded at the same point in 2025.
