The crepe-making station inside the front door is the first sign to customers that this new South San Jose cafe is more than a bagel shop.

Beyond the crepes are the counters where a vast array of hefty “eggwiches” and sandwiches are crafted and where smoothies, Italian cream sodas and coffee drinks are made.
This is the Posh Bagel, part of a venerable Bay Area group that was founded in 1992 in Los Altos — and where that Main Street shop is still operating. The chain now has 11 shops over a wide geographic swath from San Francisco to Los Gatos to Modesto, and several more in the works, according to managing partner Thang Le.
This is the second cafe for San Jose, after the Almaden Valley one.
Already, customers at this Cambrian shop, on Camden Avenue in the Lucky Supermarket center, have made clear their favorites:
— Tops among the eggwiches is the Meat and Cheddar on a bagel, with one of seven choices: bacon, sausage, ham, turkey, pineapple sausage, hot link or, for those who don’t eat pork, a chicken-apple sausage. Bagel choices include — beyond the usual — asiago, pesto, marinara and jalapeno-cheddar.
— From the specialty list, Sliced Lox and Cream Cheese, with the usual accompaniments, is popular, as is the California Club (turkey-avocado-Swiss) on the classic sandwich board.
— Strawberry and fruit combos are the most ordered from the crepes menu.
Like the other shops, Camden serves from early in the morning until mid-afternoon. But with the large emphasis on sandwiches and crepes, extended afternoon hours might be in the future.
In terms of expansion locations, Hayward is the most recent, with a Posh Bagel opening on Industrial Parkway. Next up will be a shop on Broadway in Burlingame, tentatively set for October, Le said. Looking several months out, San Jose’s Evergreen district will be getting a shop, he said, as will Oakland’s Montclair neighborhood.
The company is also planning to grow in the Sacramento region and beyond, with two shops coming to the El Dorado Hills area, one to Elk Grove and one to Yuba City.
Details: Open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 2005 Camden Ave., San Jose. Find other locations, menus and hours at https://theposhbagel.com/
