SAN BRUNO – A 29-year-old San Francisco man has been arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs in the wake of a fatal crash Sunday in San Bruno, police said.

The solo-vehicle collision happened around 12:50 a.m. near the intersection of El Camino Real and the westbound Interstate 380 off-ramp, according to the San Bruno Police Department.
The driver crashed into a light pole, leaving him and his passenger, a 22-year-old San Francisco man, with major injuries, police said. They were taken to an area hospital, where the passenger later died. Police did not identify either the driver or the passenger.
In addition to vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, the driver was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, according to police. He was later booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City.

“The San Bruno Police Department extends its condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased,” police said in a news release.
