The solo-vehicle incident happened about 11:50 p.m. on Oregon Expressway at the Alma Street underpass, according to the Palo Alto Police Department. Officers arrived to find the driver — identified only as a man in his 50s — unconscious in a sedan.
The man died at the scene, police said. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release his identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the sedan was traveling westbound on the expressway when it crashed into the walls of the underpass, according to police.
