Heat and morning haze are forecast in the Bay Area through the weekend and early next week, but smoke from wildfires in Sonoma County had abated on Saturday.

“Air quality has significantly improved,” said Dial Hoang, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Monterey.
Particulate levels from wildfire smoke were generally low in the Bay Area on Saturday morning, according to the federal government’s fire and smoke map, after firefighters battling the Woodside Fire near Salt Point State Park on the Sonoma County Coast made “great progress” to contain the fire on Friday, CalFire said.
That fire was 40% contained by 10 a.m. on Saturday, according to CalFire.
The National Weather Service forecasted hazy mornings on Sunday and Monday in the Bay Area, followed by hot weather inland. Temperatures in the low- and mid-90s were expected in San Jose, Gilroy, Dublin and Antioch. Temperatures were expected to be far lower on the Pacific coast, in the 60s and low 70s.

Those flocking to the beach to beat the heat on Saturday should be cautious of big waves and strong currents, Hoang said. The National Weather Service’s beach hazards statement remained in effect until 5 p.m. Saturday, and the ocean is still experiencing “lingering swells coming through the water,” he said.
“We’re still looking at an increased risk for sneaker waves and rip currents, and we urge people to never turn their back on the ocean,” Hoang said.
