One of Oakland’s best underground bakeries – literally and figuratively – has quietly debuted a second location in San Ramon.

Gregory’s Gourmet Desserts is having a soft opening at 2410 San Ramon Valley Blvd., Suite 140, at the center of a sweet nebula of bakeries that include Tous les Jours, Dainty Donuts and Best Donuts. The shop serves a variety of cheesecakes, Southern-influenced treats like sweet-potato pie and peach cobbler, as well as fresh-baked cinnamon rolls that have developed a cult following. The Bay Area Telegraph was the first to report the opening.
The bakery is an offshoot of the original of the same name located in a basement at 285 23rd St. in downtown Oakland. Both are run by Gregory Williams, a Brooklyn-raised chef who branched out into baking and made a name for himself with creative flavors and combinations, as well as his products’ huge sizes and calorie loads.
The East Bay Times included Gregory’s in a 2023 roundup of terrific pies in the Bay Area. A critic wrote of the shop:
“The shoebox-sized foyer is loaded with snacks for all times of day, from cast-iron apple pancakes to pastrami croissants, peach cobblers and “8UP Cake” (that’s right, it’s one more than 7UP cake). But if it’s pies you’re after, head to the case in the corner where you’ll find them lined up like dessert debutantes waiting to impress your belly.

“They’re sold by the slice — whole pies are available by preorder — and feature the daily staples of Key lime, lemon, chocolate and coconut cream. If you let your fingers slip – whoopsy! – you might pick up one of the cooler’s cheesecakes, which come in varieties like honeydew melon and ‘Best Milkshake,’ instead.”
The San Ramon location is so new it hasn’t appeared on Yelp as of publishing time. But people on Gregory’s Instagram are showing it love, with one declaring that “we are sitting at home now after polishing off a warm cinnamon roll. Going into a coma now.” Another reviewer named, uhm, “GoutClout” urges: “go go go they always have something fresh and ready when u can get some.”
