EL CERRITO — A man stopped by BART police for evading a fare had been on the run from Georgia authorities since 2024 when he was convicted of killing a trangender woman, authorities said.

In a statement, BART police said officers saw 27-year-old Davonte Fore try to get into the El Cerrito del Norte station without paying about 8:55 a.m. on Tuesday. Officers ran him down several blocks from the from the station and confirmed his identity through a check of his fingerprints, police said.
According to Georgia authorities, DeKalb (Ga.) County Superior Court Judge Nora Polk sentenced Fore to life in prison without the possibility of parole, with 15 years in confinement, after a jury found him guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a gun by a convicted felon and possession of a gun during the commission of a robbery on Nov. 13, 2024. The convictions stemmed from the June 4, 2021, shooting death of 25-year-old Skyler Gilmore.
Surveillance video showed Fore driving a car connected with Gilmore’s murder, authorities said. They added that he acted in tandem with 25-year-old JaQuan Brooks, who was taken into custody after the sentencing.
Fore attended the first two days of his 2024 trial but disappeared on Oct. 1 of that year, authorities said. He had been considered a fugitive from justice.
