SAN MATEO — Three boaters were rescued from the waters off the San Mateo shoreline Saturday after their sailboat capsized, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

A rescue call was made around 1:30 p.m. and dispatchers summoned the sheriff’s Marine Unit, which happened to be training near the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge. The unit found a capsized sailboat about a half-mile east of San Francisco International Airport and three people clinging to the side of the vessel, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies brought the three boaters — described as Foster City residents — out of the water, and the unit transported the boaters and towed the sailboat to the Coyote Point Marina.

The three shipwrecked residents were medically evaluated and were feeling the effects of exposure to the cold bay waters but were otherwise uninjured, the sheriff’s office said.
