The record, which followed a number of independent label releases, turned out to be a platinum-plus-selling hit that skyrocketed Morris to stardom. It boasted four top 20 country singles — “80s Mercedes,” “Rich,” “I Could Use a Love Song” and “My Church” — and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Country Album.
It also ended up making several year-end top 10 lists — including the one for this publication, which judged “Hero” to be the overall best album of 2016.
Ten years down the road, “Hero” still ranks as Morris’ finest album — although her other offerings, including last year’s “Dreamsicle,” have also been quite enjoyable.

Now, Morris is celebrating the 10th anniversary of her breakthrough debut with the release of “Hero: A Second Wind,” which expands upon the original album with the inclusion of new unreleased tracks and demos. The set is available on the singer’s website, marenmorris.com.
Morris is also celebrating the “Hero” anniversary, as well as showcasing more recent material, with a tour that touches down July 12 at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. and tickets start at $67, mountainwinery.com.
