A driver was killed in a solo-vehicle collision in Santa Cruz County on Saturday afternoon on state Highway 17, just north of Scotts Valley.

Drivers were warned of delays in the southbound direction following the wreck, which was reported to the California Highway Patrol at about noon, according to CHP dispatch traffic.
CHP said on Saturday afternoon that one lane was open, but there were significant delays near Vine Hill Road, where the wreck occurred.

CHP dispatch traffic indicated that the driver was a man who could have been trying to avoid something in the roadway when the vehicle went off the highway, struck a tree and overturned.
There was no estimate for when the other southbound lane would reopen at that time.
