A voter recently reported finding no election workers at the vote center at Notre Dame de Namur University when she arrived to drop off her ballot, Supervisor David Canepa said in a statement Monday evening.
Canepa said the voter provided video footage of the vote center to county election officials and requested an explanation.
“After reviewing the video myself, the vote center appeared unusually empty and unattended,” Canepa said. “At a time when public confidence in our elections is more important than ever, any report involving an unmanned voting location or questions about ballot security deserves immediate review and a prompt public response.”
The footage shows ballot boxes in the center while no election workers are present.

Canepa said he wants officials to investigate the incident, determine whether all election security and operational procedures were followed and provide a clear public explanation of what happened.
The supervisor also asked officials to reassure voters that appropriate ballot security measures were maintained throughout the voting period.
“Even if there is a reasonable explanation, voters should never be left wondering whether proper safeguards are in place,” Canepa said. “Transparency is essential to maintaining trust in our democratic process.”
Canepa said his request for an investigation is intended to strengthen public confidence through transparency and accountability. All facts surrounding the incident, the supervisor added, should be reviewed before any conclusions are reached.
