SAN FRANCISCO — A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for traveling to the Bay Area from North Carolina to meet a teen, who ran away from home to see him, court records show.

Noah Suleyman pleaded guilty to a single count of receiving child pornography and was sentenced in late August by Senior U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer, court records show. But the charge stems from months of interactions between Suleyman and the girl, a then-16-year-old from the North Bay, culminating with two face-to-face meetings between them, authorities said.
Suleyman first met the girl in North Carolina when she went on vacation there, then later traveled to the Bay Area to pick her up from her house. The girl was reported missing in 2024 and recovered safely, leading to Suleyman’s arrest on federal charges, records show.

Prosecutors say that Suleyman at first believed the girl was 24 and in college, when they met online and began talking. But later, after her 16th birthday, he learned her true age. He allegedly admitted this to his brother on a recorded phone call from jail.
“Oh well that’s not good at all,” his brother told him according to prosecutors.
“Why?” Suleyman allegedly asked.
In addition to receiving nude images of the girl, Suleyman sent her numerous sexually explicit messages and told her in March 2024 ““The only thing that would stop me [from visiting you] is jail,” prosecutors said in court filings. Breyer also reviewed a letter from the girl’s parents, which prosecutors say outlined the “devastating, severe, and life-altering impact of Mr. Suleyman’s conduct.”
