SAN JOSE — A driver hit and killed a pedestrian Saturday in San Jose, police said.

The incident happened around 12:15 a.m. on Curtner Avenue, near Stone Avenue, San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih said in a news release.
Shih said an investigation revealed a man was crossing Curtner Avenue outside any marked crosswalk when he was struck by a 2016 Tesla Model X traveling westbound.
Medical personnel pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner will release the man’s identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin are notified.

The driver, a man, stopped at the scene, Shih said.
The incident marked the city’s 18th pedestrian death and 35th overall traffic fatality of 2026. At this point last year, police had investigated 24 traffic fatalities on city streets.
