A proposed expansion of an autism center in San Jose has taken a step forward with a real estate deal that helps advance the creation of a "Dream Campus 2.0" at the site.

SAN JOSE — A proposed expansion of an autism center in San Jose has taken a step forward with a real estate deal that helps advance the creation of a “Dream Campus 2.0” at the site.

Morgan Autism Center has paid $7.5 million for a church site at 1470 McKinley Ave. in San Jose, a grant deed on file in Santa Clara County shows.

Bold Church sold the 1.9-acre property to Morgan Autism Center, according to the county real estate files.

The expanded autism facility would be located across the street from the existing Morgan Autism Center at 950 St. Elizabeth Dr., which is in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood of San Jose.

“This expansion will significantly increase our facility space while preserving the outdoor areas on our current campus,” Morgan Autism states in a post regarding the new site.

The current campus features a repurposed school gymnasium.

The nonprofit also obtained a $30 million construction loan from City National Bank at the time it formally completed the purchase of the site in early September, county real estate files show.

The next phase in the expansion will focus on a renovation of the 1470 McKinley property, a relocation of the adult program and new school classrooms into the new section of the campus, and an expansion of enrollment for both the adult and school programs. This phase is likely to require one year to 18 months to complete.

The third phase of the transformation of Morgan Autism Center will focus on the existing St. Elizabeth campus by converting the current adult program space back into a multi-purpose room and gym. Existing classrooms on the St. Elizabeth campus will be renovated.

This final phase will also feature the development of an elevated park called the Magical Bridge. The third phase is slated to take 18 to 24 months to complete.

“We look forward to bringing this vision to life and creating thoughtfully designed spaces that will support our students and adult clients for generations to come,” Morgan Autism Center states on its website.
