Lionel Richie has undergone additional medical treatment, forcing organizers to call off a trio of gigs — including a date this weekend in San Francisco — according to promoters and news accounts.

Richie “recently underwent a common procedure for Atrial fibrillation (AFib),” a spokesperson for concert promoter Live Nation said. “The doctor said everything went perfectly. Lionel is doing great but will take some time off and will be back on stage soon.”
But not soon enough to make it to his rescheduled show at Chase Center in San Francisco on Sept. 26, which is reportedly one of three delayed dates on his co-headlining The Sing A Song All Night Long tour with Earth, Wind & Fire.
“Information on a new date will be announced soon,” promoter Live Nation said. “And tickets will be honored at the re-scheduled date.
The other two postponed shows are Sept. 30 in Chicago and Oct. 2 in Columbus, Ohio, reports said.

The Sept. 26 date at Chase was to mark Richie’s return to the stage, following a medical concern that led Richie to check himself into intensive care at a St. Louis hospital following a show on Aug. 29. He reportedly underwent cardiac tests there and was released.
That Chase date was originally supposed to happen way back in early August, but was rescheduled for Sept. 26 due to a medical emergency in the Earth, Wind & Fire camp. The situation occurred on the evening of the trek’s originally scheduled date in San Francisco, when EWF drummer John Paris experienced a medical emergency — reportedly related to a cardiac concern — and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Concert organizers then pulled the plug on the gig literally minutes before showtime.
Earth, Wind & Fire continues to tour with a fill-in drummer while Paris continues to deal with severe health issues.
