SAN JOSE — A bicyclist died early Friday in a collision with a hit-and-run driver on East Capitol Expressway, police said.
The crash was reported 6:15 a.m. at the intersection with Ocala Avenue in East San Jose, according to San Jose police. The bicycle rider died at the scene, and was not immediately identified.
Police said an investigation into the death “is active and ongoing,” and traffic around the collision site was closed or restricted for several hours. Additional details were not immediately disclosed.

The collision marked the city’s 37th traffic death of the year investigated by San Jose police, and the sixth to involve a bicyclist who died, according to data compiled by this news organization. There were 27 roadway deaths, none of them bicyclists, at the same point in 2025.
