RICHMOND — A Richmond police officer was shot and wounded Thursday evening while responding to a call about a person in a mental health crisis, according to a law enforcement source with firsthand knowledge.

The officer was rushed to a local hospital and treated for at least one gunshot wound, authorities said. He was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive. Information about the suspected shooter, including the person’s gender and age, was not immediately available.
The shooting occurred hours after a Pittsburg police officer was shot and wounded inside the Pittsburg police station. In that incident, the suspect was also shot, and both men were expected to survive.

The Richmond officer was shot on Key Boulevard, near the border between El Cerrito and Richmond. Police partitioned off the area and warned residents to shelter in place.
