FREMONT — A person of interest is being sought by police for questioning in a sexual assault that occurred Aug. 16 at a hotel, authorities said Thursday.

Police said the assault happened about 1:30 p.m. at a hotel in the 40000 block of Lakeview Boulevard.
To protect the privacy of the victim, police did not release their gender or details of the assault, Sgt. Cooper Mauldin said.
He said police waited to release the information, including a sketch of the person of interest, to the public because they were trying to run down some initial leads and also because it took awhile for an artist to meet with the victim.

The person of interest is a man, possibly Hispanic or mixed race, 40 to 50 years old with a medium complexion who is tall in stature but has a thin build. His hair was described as dark with some gray, mid-neck to shoulder length and fell below his ears. He also has a goatee and mustache. He has light brown or green eyes and may have a mole or bump on the bridge of his nose.
Police believe at this time that this is an isolated incident.
Police said anyone who recognizes the man, has information about his identity or whereabouts, or who may have witnessed related activity in the area is asked to contact Crimes Against Persons detectives at 510-790-6900.
