European-style cakes and pastries – and dog biscuits – come to Livermore

Livermore has a new outlet for individuals with a sweet tooth — or at least, half a sweet tooth: Primrose Bakery, a bakeshop that specializes in European-style cakes and pastries.

Primrose soft-opened on Aug. 4 at 154 S. J St., with a grand opening on a yet-to-be-announced date. The business is run by married couple Jesse and Jessica Eiland, who also operate the original location in downtown Pleasanton.

“Primrose Bakery is primarily a dessert bakery with a European influence,” Jesse Eiland says. “Expect our desserts to be more subtle and less sweet than traditional American cakes and pastries. We are known for wedding cakes and elevated desserts for special occasions.”

Primrose is a preferred vendor for more than 20 country clubs, golf courses and wineries in the Tri-Valley area, he adds.

Jessica Eiland is a classically trained pastry chef who “uses as many hundred-year-old secrets as she does cutting edge techniques to create something traditional yet modern and exciting,” according to the shop’s website. She has won first-place baking awards from several local news outlets and also took Best in Show for professional cake decorating at the Alameda County Fair.

Aside from desserts, the bakeshop caters to the morning crowd with sweet pastries like fruit Danishes, bear claws and cinnamon rolls. Savory pastries include bacon-egg croissants, spanakopita turnovers and vols-au-vent, which are like birds’ nests of puff pastry stuffed with hearty fillings.

“We are thrilled to have opened our new store in Livermore, our hometown,” Jesse Eiland says.

“The official grand-opening date is yet to be announced, but we will invite the whole town to party with us when it happens. Our shops are family-friendly with something for everyone — even homemade doggy treats!”

It’s possible Primrose could be riding a coming wave of dessert providers to Livermore. Meadowlark Dairy, whose original shop is also in Pleasanton, recently opened up a new location in the city, too, serving its famous soft-serve ice cream.
