San Jose State’s quarterback competition is settled a little more than a week before its season opener.

Hawaii transfer Luke Weaver will be behind center for the Spartans when they travel to Los Angeles to play USC on Aug. 29, the school confirmed Wednesday.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel was the first to report the news.
Weaver was competing for the job with redshirt freshman Robert McDaniel and true freshman Daniel Rolovich.
The senior went 2-0 as a starter and appeared in five games overall for Hawaii last season.

The Manteca native threw for 294 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Sam Houston and 240 yards and two touchdowns to beat Portland State.
The highlight of his season came in a relief role as he came off the bench to throw the winning touchdown pass to beat Cal 35-31 in the Hawaii Bowl. Hawaii had trailed 21-0.
Weaver has played in the Run-and-Shoot offense, which is similar to the Spread-and-Shred system that he’ll run under San Jose State offensive coordinator Craig Stutzmann.

Before going to Hawaii, he played at Modesto Junior College.
