An evacuation was ordered for the Sierra Nevada foothills in Calaveras County because of a wildfire that started Monday afternoon.

The Gann Fire was reported around 5:15 p.m. Aug. 3 south of New Hogan Reservoir, said the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Before 8 p.m., evacuations were called for about 90 square miles extending to the outskirts of San Andreas.
By 6 a.m. Tuesday, the burned area was estimated at 2,100 acres (3.3 square miles).
