OAKLAND — A 50-year-old defendant charged with murder has accepted a plea deal that allows him to serve 15 years in state prison for a lesser offense, court records show.

Jeffrey Hall Jr., of Oakland, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the Dec. 16, 2020 shooting death of 43-year-old Terrence Douresseau. Because of his plea, Hall was sentenced to 15 years on July 2, with credit the five-and-a-half years he spent in jail while his case was pending, records show.
Douresseau was shot and killed at his home, on the 5500 block of East 15th Street in Oakland. Police said at the time that multiple suspects arrived in a Chevy Equinox, and a passenger in the car fired a pistol before the driver got out and sprayed the residence with bullets from a rifle.
Hall was the only man ever charged. Police say he rented the Chevy and that his phone’s GPS signals placed him at the homicide scene.
Text messages between him and Douresseau that day signaled that there was some conflict between the two men. It centered on a woman who had a restraining order against Douresseau for alleged domestic violence, and who was saved in his phone under “Punk B—-,” according to court records. Dourresseau reportedly suspected that Hall had called the police on the woman’s behalf.

Around 8:40 p.m. that night of the homicide, Hall texted Douresseau what appeared to be an attempted to smooth things over.
“I don’t want no problems. I told you that ain’t my girl,” Hall wrote, according to police testimony at his preliminary hearing.
But 20 minutes after sending that text, prosecutors say Hall went to Douresseau’s home and killed him.
Hall was arrested about two months after the shooting, and has been in jail ever since, records show.
