LAFYETTE — The former home of industrialist Henry J. Kaiser caught fire Saturday afternoon, causing major damage to the 14,000 square-foot residence.

The fire broke out around 5 p.m. Saturday. Pictures of the blaze show a large portion of the estate engulfed in flames and smoke. An estimate of the damage wasn’t immediately available.
Fire officials say the cause wasn’t immediately clear. There have been no immediate reports of injuries.

The 7.4-acre property was once the Kaiser family’s estate and remained a landmark even after the late industrialist moved from the Bay Area to Hawaii. Multiple real estate sites say the property was offered for sale last year for $6.995 million and sold last March.
