PLEASANTON — A man killed in an unusual Jeep accident has been identified, and his loved ones have raised more than $10,000 toward building a well near a school in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Elham Ahmad Waziri died in a hospital two days after he fell from a moving Jeep on the 5300 block of Owens Court in Pleasanton. Authorities say he was standing outside the vehicle, hanging onto its running boards, when he fell onto the pavement and suffered critical injuries.
An online fundraiser in Waziri’s memory says his loved ones want to construct a well in his honor in Afghanistan to “increase his good deeds.” The plan is to build it in a town to provide clean water to 13,000 people. As of Friday morning, they had raised more than $10,000 for its construction.

“(Waziri) always encouraged others to do the right thing and was never afraid to call out actions that went against his values,” the fundraiser says. “His presence was a source of joy and guidance for our family and community.”
The fatal crash remains under investigation, according to police. The Jeep’s driver remained at the accident site and spoke with police; he has not been charged with a crime.
