BERKELEY — A 19-year-old Hayward man has been arrested on suspicion of shooting and seriously injuring his ex-girlfriend outside her Berkeley home in June, police said.

The shooting was reported at 11:13 p.m. on June 14 in the 1900 block of Ashby Avenue, according to the Berkeley Police Department. Officers arrived to find the victim — identified as a 19-year-old woman — suffering from a gunshot wound to the face.
Police said the victim was taken to an area hospital and is continuing to recover from her injuries.
The shooting stemmed from an encounter between the suspect and the victim at the victim’s residence in the 2900 block of Adeline Street, police said, adding that the suspect shot the victim outside the home when she tried to get in her car and leave.
The suspect then went through the victim’s car and stole cash, according to police.
Detectives identified the suspect as Darius Tate and secured a warrant for his arrest.

Surveillance footage showed Tate leaving the scene with the help of his mother, who picked him up after the shooting and provided him with a change of clothing, police said.
An arrest warrant was also issued for Tate’s mother — identified as Ann Fernandez, 53, of Hayward.
Both were taken into custody Wednesday in San Leandro. Tate was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery, domestic violence and carrying a loaded firearm, and Fernandez was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory after the commission of a felony.
Police said detectives also recovered a pair of loaded handguns and other evidence believed to be connected to the shooting.
