SAN JOSE — One person was taken to the hospital after the driver of an electric truck crashed through the front of a crawfish restaurant in East San Jose on Thursday morning, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 11:39 a.m., when a man driving a Rivian truck plowed through the eatery’s storefront in the 1700 block of Story Road, near King Road, according to San Jose police and emergency dispatch recordings.
One man was reportedly trapped under some debris and was later taken to the hospital for what police described as non-life threatening injuries. At least one other person was treated, according to dispatchers, but there was no indication that person was taken to the hospital.

After the crash, San Jose fire personnel helped evacuate the restaurant and adjacent businesses — a nail salon and an optometry office — because of a resulting gas leak that was quickly capped.
A precise cause for the crash was not immediately disclosed. Police said the driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators, and there is no indication that person was arrested or cited.
