LAFAYETTE — A 74-year-old Oakland woman was arrested on suspicion of using bear spray during a dispute outside an East Bay grocery store over the weekend, police said.

The incident happened around 10:40 a.m. Saturday in the 3600 block of Mount Diablo Boulevard in Lafayette, the Lafayette Police Department said in a news release.
The woman and another person got into an argument in the parking lot, police said, adding that the woman pointed bear spray out of the driver’s side window of her car and sprayed the other person.
Police said the woman used the bear spray a second time while driving out of the parking lot.

A total of eight people were exposed to the bear spray, police said. Contra Costa County Fire Protection District personnel treated the victims at the scene and took one to an area hospital.
Orinda police officers stopped the woman on westbound Highway 24. She was ultimately arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful use of tear gas.
The woman was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility, but was no longer in custody as of Tuesday.
