ANTIOCH — A murder suspect sought for the death of a 77-year-old man last month has been arrested, police said.

Police had been seeking 23-year-old Camari Coleman since the June 9 beating of Paul Lawson at a phone vendor stand. Lawson initially survived the incident and was hospitalized. He died in the hospital four days later while receiving care.
Antioch police Lt. Bill Whitaker said via phone that officers arrested Coleman on Tuesday about 12:45 p.m. in Brentwood. They briefly surveiled his car and pulled him over. The arrest happened without incident.
“He was fully compliant,” Whitaker said.
According to court records, Contra Costa County prosecutors have charged Coleman with murder and elder abuse resulting in death. He remained in custody at the Martinez Detention Facilty on Wednesday in lieu of $1.1 million bail.

In a statement, police said investigators determined that Coleman became involved in a shouting match with employees at an outdoor phone vendor stand at 4545 Delta Fair Blvd. The shouting evolved into a fight, and Coleman fell. He told medics he was unable to move, and he went by ambulance to a hospital.
He died June 13.
Police received an arrest warrant on Thursday after investigators submitted their case to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.
