A Coast Guard helicopter crew airlifted a woman from a cruise ship about 45 miles off Humboldt Bay Thursday, July 16.

Coast Guard watchstanders received a notification about 5:10 p.m. that a 51-year-old woman was experiencing symptoms of a stroke after a crew member of the Carnival Luminosa cruise ship requested a medical evacuation.
A crew from the Humboldt Bay air station responded to assist the woman, officials said. Despite 40-mph winds and 8- to 10-foot seas, or local waves, the crew lifted the woman and transported her to Mendocino Coast Hospital.

The woman was reportedly in stable condition, authorities said in a news release Saturday, July 18.
