Most of the evacuation orders for the Little Fire, south of Pleasanton, were lifted late Tuesday as the fire’s progress was checked around 1,000 acres.

The fire started at the north end of Little Hill Road shortly before 3 p.m., said the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Evacuation orders that eventually covered 12 square miles were put in place over the next two hours, extending to Vineyard Avenue on the north and Highway 84 on the east.

Orders for some zones were lifted around 9:30 p.m., and that for the Ruby Hill subdivision around 11:30 p.m.
The fire was mapped at 1,007 acres (1.6 square miles), CalFire said. Containment late Tuesday was 10%.
