SAN LEANDRO — A second suspect has been arrested and charged in the May car crash that killed a beloved elementary school employee and mother of three children, court records show.

Shaohui Wu, 35, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and accessory in the May 11 collision that killed 50-year-old Andrea Sanchez. Police say after crash, Shaohui Wu drove up in his own vehicle and provided a ride home for Chuliao Wu, 32, who exited his own car and ran from the wreck site.
The two men allegedly drove past the crash on the way home, where three responding police cars and a firetruck were investigating and attempting to save Sanchez’s life. They allegedly continued on their journey, failing to contact authorities. Chuliao Wu has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene, and remains jailed in lieu of $125,000 bail, court records show.
In court records, police described Shaohui Wu as a “friend” of Chuliao Wu but it’s unclear if the two are actually related. Shaohui Wu posted $55,000 bail and was freed from jail. Alameda County prosecutors also charged him with possessing a small bag of cocaine in his pants pocket when he was arrested in mid-June, court records show.
Chuliao Wu is accused of speeding when he crashed into Sanchez’s car around 5 p.m. May 11, at the intersection of Corvallis Street and Dartmouth Avenue in San Leandro. Court records allege Wu was driving a Mercedes Benz that video recovered at the scene showed was going in excess of 60 mph, more than double the street speed limit, and passing other cars before colliding with Sanchez’s Kia.

Sanchez died at a hospital the same day as the crash, according to court records. Chuliao Wu was arrested on May 27 and admitted to being the driver, according to police. Shaohui Wu also confessed to helping Chulia escape, authorities said.
Police say that before Chuliao Wu ran from the scene, he walked up to the Kia, got a good look at Sanchez’s condition, then fled on foot.
Sanchez worked in the cafeteria at Corvallis Elementary School in the 14000 block of Corvalis Street in San Leandro. She was known at school as “Chef Andrea,” or “Dre.” A memorial notice on the San Lorenzo Unified School District’s website describes her as a “devoted wife, mother, sister, friend, coworker, and ‘Auntie’ to so many.”
“Dre was truly one of a kind, bringing joy, warmth, and positivity to every room she entered. She had a remarkable way of making people feel loved, seen, and uplifted,” the post says.
