Three arrested after gunfire follows loud music in Antioch

ANTIOCH — Three people were arrested Saturday after Antioch police officers found them with guns and nearly two dozen ounces of marijuana outside a car punctured with bullet holes, police said.

It all happened Saturday after more than one person called to report gunfire and ended without any injuries.

Antioch police Lt. Bill Whitaker said via text that three people were arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed gun inside a vehicle; carrying a loaded gun in a vehicle or public place; possession of an assault weapon and possession of a large-capacity magazine.

In a statement, police said they received several calls about 12:50 a.m. reporting gunfire in the area of Metcalf Street near James Donlon Boulevard. Those calls came about an hour after several calls reporting loud music and a large gathering of vehicles.

Police said officers arrived to find a vehicle punctured by an unspecified number of bullet holes on the passenger side and that three people were inside it with a fourth person standing nearby. Police said the officers noticed inconsistencies in the statements made by the four and that the behavior of one of them also raised suspicions.

At one point, one of the officers noticed a gun inside the vehicle, police said.

Officers next detained the four, and police said at that point one of the officers found a loaded handgun in the waistband of one of them. Police said officers also found an AR-style pistol inside a backpack on the rear seat and recovered a shell casing from inside the vehicle. They added that further evidence collected by officers indicated that at least one bullet had exited the rear window from the car’s inside.

Police said officers also found 23 ounces of marijuana.

One person eventually was let go, Whitaker said. In their statement, police originally said four people were arrested.
