SAN JOSE — Two elderly individuals were found deceased in their home Thursday night following a call for a welfare check, authorities said.

Officials did not immediately offer preliminary causes of death for the two people.
Police responded to the 1100 block of Willowhaven Drive around 9:48 p.m. to conduct a welfare check, where they found two deceased elderly people, according to the San Jose Police Department.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office then responded to the scene and took over the investigation, authorities said.

The San Jose Fire Department was called to the scene to check for carbon monoxide in the residence to ensure “safe working conditions for personnel on scene,” said Jake Pisani, SJFD public information officer. Firefighters did not detect elevated levels of carbon monoxide in the residence.
“The absence of elevated carbon monoxide readings at the time of SJFD’s assessment does not necessarily indicate whether carbon monoxide may or may not have been present earlier,” Pisani added.
The identities of the two decedents and their causes of death will be released by the medical examiner’s office. The office did not release any information Friday afternoon.
