Crews battle pair of wildfires in the East Bay

BYRON – Crews on Wednesday afternoon battled a pair of wildfires in Byron and Livermore.

The Byron Fire ignited just before 3:45 p.m. along Byron Highway near Camino Diablo Road in Byron, according to Watch Duty, a nonprofit organization and app that tracks fires.

Roughly 11 miles to the southwest, the Laughlin Fire broke out shortly before 4 p.m. near Laughlin Road and Bluffs Drive in Livermore, the nonprofit organization reported.

The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department said the Laughlin Fire threatened structures, which led to a second alarm.

Crews halted the forward progress of the Byron Fire around 4:30 p.m. and the Laughlin Fire around 4:40 p.m.

By that point, the Byron Fire had consumed 47 acres and the Laughlin Fire about 15 acres.

There were no immediate reports of injuries to people or damage to structures.

The blazes ignited as high temperatures continued to bake the Bay Area for a third day in a row. The forecast Wednesday called for Byron to top out at 104 degrees and Livermore at 96 degrees, according to AccuWeather. The heat wave is expected to begin subsiding Thursday.
