SANTA CLARA — A search is underway for a suspect in a sexual assault early Monday in Santa Clara, police said.

Around 1:30 a.m., public safety dispatchers received a report of a person yelling for help from Carmichael Park, located at 3445 Benton St., according to the Santa Clara Police Department. Officers arrived to find a woman who had been sexually assaulted.
An unknown male suspect, meanwhile, ran north from the park and was last seen jumping over the fence at an adjacent condominium complex on Benton Street, police said. Officers searched the surrounding area but they did not find the suspect.
Police did not release a description of him.
Residents and businesses in the area are being asked to review surveillance footage captured between 12:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. Monday.

“Even footage that does not appear to show the assault itself may help investigators identify the suspect’s movements before the incident,” police said in a news release.
