SF Giants’ Logan Webb not likely to pitch in 2026 MLB All-Star Game

SAN FRANCISCO — Logan Webb did not provide a definitive “yes” or “no” answer when asked if he planned to pitch for the National League in Tuesday’s All-Star Game. That said, his participation in the exhibition seems unlikely at this juncture.

“This wasn’t just a me decision. This was kind of a team decision,” said Webb, who’s now a three-time All-Star. “We all just thought it’d be the best option to not throw in the game. Like I said, I did pitch in the [World Baseball Classic]. I was hurt for a month. It’s the first time I’ve been hurt in a long time. So, just have a little bit of a break. … Just try to get somewhat of a break and come back strong.

“But, I don’t know. This all could be for nothing because I might be pitching in the game. But, I think the plan was, at least from my understanding, talking to our team was for me not to pitch.”

Webb, who pitched in the All-Star Game in 2024 and 2025, could benefit from a couple of days off, even if he does have to make the cross-country trip to Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

The 29-year-old navigated an untraditional spring training by pitching for the United States in the World Baseball Classic, allowing one run over 8 2/3 innings with 11 strikeouts to one walk during his first taste of international competition. Despite his success in the WBC, Webb posted a 5.06 ERA over his first eight starts before missing several weeks due to right knee bursitis.

“We’ll see. I think most likely not,” said manager Tony Vitello. “He’s done a lot in general when you count the WBC and then those couple of outings with some knee pain.”

Webb is slated to start against the Mariners in Seattle when the second half resumes following the break. He enters the All-Star break with a 5-7 record and 3.86 ERA over 16 starts with 80 strikeouts over 100 1/3 innings.
