As of this month, participants in the San José Public Library’s annual Summer Learning program had logged nearly 20,000 hours of reading since the program began in June. The program, designed to help children and teens maintain and build good reading habits while continuing to learn during their summer break, runs through July 31.

During the program’s first month, participants also logged nearly 50,000 books read, while over 5,300 people attended free Summer Learning programs across San Jose’s 25 library locations.
Participants who complete the Summer Learning program will be entered into drawings for more than 125 grand prizes across the library system, including free Mountain Mike’s Pizza for a year; a Bay FC Game Suite Experience for the family and family tickets to most San Jose Earthquakes regular season home games.

ROSE GARDEN>>Playful People Productions is staging “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” July 17-18, performed by two mixed casts of teens and adults July 17—18, 2026 at Historic Hoover Theater in San Jose. Based on Charles Schulz’s comic strip, the musical explores life’s great questions through the eyes of Charlie Brown and his friends in the Peanuts gang.
