RICHMOND — An investigation is underway into the in-custody death of a woman early Friday at the West County Detention Facility in Richmond, according to authorities.

A deputy sheriff was conducting safety checks at about 12:25 a.m. when she found the inmate unresponsive with a “ligature around her neck,” the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The woman received emergency medical aid, but she was later pronounced dead at the jail.
Authorities identified the woman as Robi Lynn Perley, 59, of Rio Vista, adding that she was arrested Thursday in Antioch on an outstanding warrant for driving under the influence and a probation violation.

The death is being investigated by the sheriff’s office and the district attorney’s office.
