WALNUT CREEK — A Contra Costa prosecutor was arrested July 4 on suspicion of domestic battery and being drunk in public and booked into county jail, this news organization has learned.

Arshpal Singh, 33, was arrested on suspicion of the two misdemeanor offenses, multiple law enforcement sources confirmed. He posted $3,000 bail and was released from jail the same day of his arrest, according to Contra Costa jail records.
No criminal charges had been filed against Singh as of Wednesday, court records show.
The arrest record doesn’t say what time Singh was arrested. A Walnut Creek police spokesperson didn’t immediately respond Wednesday to requests for additional details.
A Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office spokesman issued a brief statement noting that the agency’s standard practice is to have another prosecutorial office review potential charges involving one of its employees, but did not directly address Singh’s case.

“Whenever an investigation involves an employee of the District Attorney’s Office, a potential conflict of interest exists,” the DA’s statement says. “Our standard practice is for another prosecutorial agency to conduct a review to ensure impartiality.”
The spokesman, Ted Asregadoo, didn’t address questions about whether Singh had been placed on administrative leave.
Singh’s profile on the State Bar of California’s website says he became an attorney in 2017. Public payroll records say he was hired by the DA’s office that same year. He has handled high-profile cases, including the prosecution of Reno Fiapoto, a popular San Francisco rapper known as Tear It Off Greezy, who has been charged with murder in Richmond.

Singh could not immediately be reached for comment.
