SAN JOSE – The Sharks have parted ways with Cody Ward, who just finished his fourth season as the team’s assistant video coach. Per a team spokesperson, Ward’s contract expired and was not renewed.

It was not immediately clear why Ward’s contract was not renewed. The Sharks went 1-for-3 this past season on coach’s challenges.
Ward’s primary responsibilities were assisting coach Ryan Warsofsky and video coach Nick Gialdini in statistical analysis and operating the replay system for reviews and challenges during the game. Ward was also on Warsofsky’s staff with the Chicago Wolves during the 2021-2022 season when they won the Calder Cup.
Warsofsky is entering his third season as the Sharks’ head coach after serving two years as an assistant. Gialdini is entering his fifth season as the video coach and 19th with the Sharks organization.

Warsofsky, Gialdini, and other members of the Sharks coaching staff, Jeff Houda, Brian Wiseman, Jeff Ulmer, and Thomas Speer, are all expected to return for the 2026-27 season. The Sharks finished last season with 86 points, a 34-point improvement over the previous year.
Ward previously worked for the Canisius College men’s hockey team from 2017 to 2021 and spent time internationally as the video coordinator for Die Adler Mannheim in the DEL German league during the 2014-15 season, when the team won the league championship.
