Because July 4 falls on a Saturday this year, the holiday closure calendar is more complicated than usual.
Here are the basics of 2026 Independence Day closures.
Federal offices: Friday, July 3, is the observed holiday for most U.S. government offices and services. One major exception: the Postal Service.
U.S. Postal Service: Post offices will be open and mail delivered on Friday, but not on Saturday.
California offices: Most state government offices and services will be open on Friday. State employees will be given a holiday credit.

San Mateo County and San Francisco say some offices and services will be open on Friday.
Libraries: These also vary. For instance, San Mateo County libraries are open Friday and closed on Saturday and Sunday, while San Mateo city libraries are closed Friday and Saturday. San Jose Public Libraries will be closed Saturday.
Banks: In general, banks will be open Friday and closed Saturday.
Stock markets: NYSE and Nasdaq will be closed Friday.
BART: Normal weekday schedule Friday, and Sunday schedule on Saturday.
Caltrain: Normal weekday schedule Friday. Weekend schedule on Saturday, with one additional southbound local train leaving San Francisco after the fireworks.
