SAN JOSE — A driver hit and killed a pedestrian Wednesday evening in San Jose, police said.

The incident happened around 7:40 p.m. at the intersection of Monterey and Ford roads, according to San Jose police Officer Tanya Hernandez.
Hernandez said an investigation revealed a man was walking eastbound across Monterey Road when he was hit by a woman driving a 2013 Kia SUV northbound on the roadway.
The pedestrian died from his injuries at the scene. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Hernandez said. She was later taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The death marked San Jose’s 24th traffic fatality of the year. The city had recorded 14 traffic fatalities at this point in 2025.
