SAN JOSE — With recently announced layoff plans that will affect 600 workers, job cuts for the Bay Area tech industry in 2026 have greatly outpaced 2025.

During the first six months of 2026, tech companies have disclosed decisions to eliminate about 10,900 jobs in the Bay Area, according to information from the state Employment Development Department.
In contrast, tech companies revealed plans to cut 4,700 positions in the region during the first six months of 2025.
As the pace has quickened, so has the total number of cuts with 2026 already surpassing all of 2025’s totals, which saw 10,170 tech sector layoffs for the entire year.

Adding to 2026’s totals, Cisco Systems recently disclosed plans to slash 471 jobs in the Bay Area – 236 in San Jose, 154 in Milpitas, and 81 in San Francisco. The layoffs are slated to occur July 13, the EDD reported.
Bill.com revealed a reduction of 129 positions in San Jose that are scheduled for Aug. 24, the EDD reported.

Both companies have their headquarters in San Jose.
