Johnny Doughnuts, a cult favorite Marin County shop with Food Network cred, will host a grand opening party from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at its newest location, Santana Row.

The bakery and its decadent creations — rotating flavors like Maple Bacon Glazed, Chocolate Salted Caramel Old-Fashioned, Lime Mascarpone Bismark and the CroDough (croissant doughnut) — made their debut recently at the San Jose center’s Park Valencia.
Besides doughnuts, the celebration will feature live music, games and giveaways.
Founded in 2012 as a food truck by restaurant industry veteran Craig Blum, Johnny served tech industry and other corporate clients before opening brick-and-mortar shops.
“We create nostalgic, classic-style doughnuts, but in a very elevated way — using locally sourced flour, dairy and fresh fruits,” Blum told the Santa Rosa Press Democrat this year in announcing a soon-to-open Napa shop.
The Food Network has rated Johnny among the Top 5 Doughnuts in America, and the “Eat This, Not That!” website judged the vegan and classic cinnamon rolls the best in California.

The bakery also makes apple fritters, vegan doughnuts and wheat-free doughnuts and serves Equator coffee. Fresh doughnuts are made three times a day.
At Santana Row, Johnny took over a spot near Urban Plates, Smitten, The Counter and Maggiano’s. According to a Johnny manager, that Italian restaurant supplies a good number of customers, with diners often deciding to cap off a pasta dinner with one of the shop’s large, rich doughnuts.
Another source of customers? The fitness club across the square, he said, with sweet lovers often showing up after their workouts, not before.
